    Secondary education and prevention of child marriage for out-of-school adolescent girls in rural India  

    Each year for 1.5 million girls in India, child marriage limits foundational life choices, and instead brings in motherhood and hardship, leading them into a downward spiral of poverty and ill health. Ensuring secondary education for 1% of these girls will enable them to prevent child marriage and initaite an upward journey into future, leading to an increase in India's GDP by USD 5.5 billion.

    YouthInvest has set up URJA Kendra in urban slums and rural areas to enable underprivileged young people - who often lack access to resources - learn 21st-century digital & IT and communication skills, and enhance life skills for increased job-readiness and employability.

    HOME-BASED COUNSELLING ON FEEDING PRACTICES

    for prevention of childhood malnutrition

    In India, breastfeeding faltering and inadequate feeding practices during the first two years are key reasons for widespread childhood malnutrition. YouthInvest's health & nutrition programme in Assam is strengtheing capacity of 18000 plus Anganwadi Workers and 600 plus ICDS Supervisors on home-level counselling on appropriate feeding practices for first 1000 days (pregnancy and the child's first two years), aimed at prevention of childhood malnutrition among 1 million under 5 children.

We envision healthy, educated, emotionally well-adjusted, and skilled adolescents and youth – especially from marginalised and disadvantaged populations – entering adulthood.

     

    We work in partnership with the government, local communities, and the private sector to strengthen youth participation in the development process and bring about sustainable change in education and skills training, health and nutrition, and life skills development of children and young people.

     

    We currently reach out to:

    • 1000 plus young people through our education and skills training programme.
    • 35,000 plus adolescents through our life skills development programme.
    • 11,00,000 plus children and adolescents through our health and nutrition programme.

    We work in the domain of education and skills training, health, nutrition and WASH, and youth leadership and life skills development, focused on critical life stages, i.e., childhood, adolescence and youths, to ensure sustainable change.

    •  We work in rural areas and urban slums in communities and schools to prevent childhood malnutrition, reduce iron-deficiency anaemia, ensure better reproductive & sexual health outcomes, and positive lifestyle & wellness practices, safe water & sanitation (WASH) practices, resulting in improved health and nutrition of children and young people.
